Tai Chi instructor John Henry discovers a hidden man-made pyramid near Patagonia, Arizona. Inside, he finds a mechanical portal platform and the 700-year-old skeleton of a Knights Templar, Audric de Malart. Taking a golden medallion and sword from the remains, John accidentally activates the portal and is transported to Roman Britain in 208 AD.
Captured by a Caledonian Celtic tribe, John is spared execution when his medallion marks him as an ally of an ancient order. He befriends a warrior woman, Danae, and joins the Celts in their fight against Rome. They uncover another portal hidden within a ruined temple just as Roman forces close in—and escape through it.
They emerge in a secret, intact Knights Templar stronghold in modern-day Alaska, filled with lost treasure, archives, and advanced technology. John contacts Mike, leader of a present-day Templar order. But powerful enemies are already in motion: Catherine, a ruthless Romani queen who seized power through assassination, is hunting the Templars. She dispatches mercenaries led by cartel commander Carlos Travino to seize the Alaskan site.
What follows is a brutal, multi-sided conflict involving the Templars, Catherine’s forces, and eventually the U.S. military—brought in through Colonel Steve Peterson, the uncle of a local student who helps John. Anchorage becomes a battleground, the Templar team is largely wiped out, and the Alaskan stronghold is rigged to explode. John and Steve escape at the last moment through the portal, jumping to a hidden site in Mexico as the base is destroyed, killing Carlos and burying the treasure.
The Mexican portal is damaged, trapping them underground in an even older vault belonging to the original portal builders—containing advanced weapons and aircraft. Carlos’s brother Angel surrounds the site with a cartel army. After days trapped below, John and Steve signal U.S. satellites with a laser beam, triggering a covert Ranger rescue and a massive secret firefight. The cartel forces are crushed, the technology is seized, and the site is destroyed by cruise missile.
In the aftermath, John and Danae receive new identities and government protection. The Templars recover part of their buried wealth and regain strength. Catherine survives, now armed with stolen research and knowledge of the portal network.
The story ends with John and Danae married and living quietly in remote Alaska—wealthy, watchful, and aware that the hidden war over the portals is far from finished.
